Library Services for Multicultural Populations Mid-Year Meeting: Multicultural Information Services: Supporting Identity and Diversity

Timişoara, Romania, 1-2 March 2018


Central University Library “Eugen Todoran” Timisoara

The location will be the beautiful multicultural town Timişoara in Romania (“Little Vienna” and 2021 Cultural Capital of Europe).There are direct flights from Munich, London and other European cities. Timişoara is also reachable by shuttle bus or train from Budapest (recommended) and Belgrade, 3 hours approximately.

Call for papers: 

We welcome presentation of papers, case studies and papers with innovative and practical perspectives on the current and future role of libraries in a multicultural society.

Sub-topics (not exhaustive and not restricted to MCULTP) are:

  1.     Future information user needs in a multicultural society
  2.     Social networks and new means of communicating information in society
  3.     Media and information skills of the society of the future
  4.     Social, economic and political library advocacy

How to Submit a proposal:

Members of the MCULTP Section and interested persons are invited to submit a proposal for a paper and presentation of 20 minutes on any of the topics listed above.

The conference presentations may be given in English. The initial proposal should be no more than 500 words long (1 page), submitted in electronic format, and accompanied by a brief bio of the author(s), 150 words maximum. Paper length will be between 5 to 15 pages.

Evaluation Process:

First phase includes evaluation of abstracts, and Second Phase includes evaluation of full papers.  The evaluation will be based on content quality: pertinence, theoretical basis, methodology, or best practice originality.

Selected case studies will be promoted to the international audience of this IFLA Section. If funding is available, selected papers will also be published in the Romanian Review of Library & Information Science, ISSN 1841-1940. Indexed in EBSCO, ERIH+, CEEOL Databases, and in the in the Central University Library E. Todoran’s journal „Lecturn”.

Please Note:

At least one of the paper’s authors must be present to deliver a summary of the paper during the program of the Meeting.

All expenses for attending the Mid-Year Meeting (such as travel and accommodation) are the responsibility of the authors/presenters. No financial support can be provided by IFLA.

The Library Services for Multicultural Population Section Midyear Meeting is organized by the IFLA MCULTP Standing Committee and the local partners West University of Timisoara, Faculty of Political Sciences, Philosophy and Communication Sciences (LIS), Central University Library “Eugen Todoran” in Timisoara, Central Library of Politehnica University of Timisoara, Timis County Public Library „Sorin Titel”, the Romanian Librarians Association, the Romanian Librarians Association, Timis Branch and the Romanian National Public Libraries Association, the Romanian National Public Libraries Association, Timis Branch, the Library of the Romanian Academy, Timis Branch and the Pro Biblioteca Association.
